As a long-time educator and avid TV enthusiast who’s seen more than a few school years and sitcom seasons come and go, I can confidently say that “Abbott Elementary” season 4 is shaping up to be a masterpiece! The first episode, “Back to School,” promises all the heartwarming chaos and laughter we’ve come to expect from this brilliant show.
In the opening episode of season 4 for “Abbott Elementary,” titled “Back to School,” the staff members are bracing themselves for a challenging year, as suggested by the amusing preview! As is typical, the school faces significant budget constraints, and the trailer begins with Melissa and Barbara requesting textbooks and cleaning supplies from Principal Ava for their classrooms – essential items indeed. Given their circumstances, it’s no surprise that they have to make do with limited resources. And true to form, Ava responds with her characteristic wit.
It appears Jacob has another secret adversary besides Mr. Morton, as the classroom animals might not be as wonderful as they seem (teachers requested funds for after-school activities but received pets instead). There’s also an HR visit upcoming, and it seems ringworm is spreading. The video showing Ava in protective gear suggests a lockdown could be imminent.
However, it’s clear that this community of educators will triumph over all obstacles side by side. Though some problems, like ringworm for instance, might not be amusing, their responses and strategies are bound to bring a chuckle. And that’s exactly what I adore about this series.
On October 9, 2024, the fourth season of “Abbott Elementary” will start airing on Wednesdays. I can hardly wait! This hilarious sitcom is almost here, and I’m filled with excitement. Meanwhile, the teachers like Janine, Gregory, and the rest are handling their day-to-day issues, but a larger problem hinted at in the previous season is also looming.
Previously, Quinta Brunson, the writer-actress behind the comedy series, hinted at an impending transformation in the neighborhood surrounding the school, which she referred to as a “looming change.” Later, producers Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker confirmed that this change would be gentrification. This development is expected to significantly affect the school and its staff, potentially presenting their most significant hurdle this season. Additionally, main characters Janine and Gregory will need to deal with the complexities of their relationship in this new environment. I’m really looking forward to seeing how it all unfolds!
There’s a significant episode coming up in the fourth season that Brunson hinted at Comic-Con might revolutionize TV. I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be a collaboration between Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Maybe they live in the same neighborhood, and together they’ll try to prevent gentrification? This idea is stuck in my head, and I can’t shake it! Let’s make it happen! And if the It’s Always Sunny crew does indeed team up with Abbott Elementary, the staff will surely have their work cut out for them!
Abbott Elementary season 4 premieres Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024 on ABC.
