As a die-hard fan, I’ve been eagerly waiting for months now for that mind-blowing crossover between “Abbott Elementary” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” And finally, the wait is over! Part 1 of this epic event unfolded as Season 4 Episode 9 on ABC. In this pioneering chapter of the crossover, we find ourselves back at Abbott Elementary, where our beloved teachers are trying to make sense of an unconventional group of local volunteers who’ve just walked through their doors!
Here is what happens in the Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny crossover Part 1.
What happens in Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny crossover Part 1?
Title of the first part of the crossover between Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny, called “Volunteers,” features characters from the FXX series: Mac (played by Rob McElhenney), Frank (Danny DeVito), Dennis (Glenn Howerton), Charlie (Charlie Day), and Dee (Kaitlin Olson).
The notion of blending these sitcoms seems oddly unconventional, but the episode manages to capitalize on that quirkiness. Characters from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia display their eccentric and bold personalities within the sincere backdrop of Abbott Elementary.
During the episode’s unfolding, it becomes clear that the characters from It’s Always Sunny aren’t there as volunteers. Instead, they are serving out 100 hours of court-ordered community service at Willard R. Abbott Elementary School. Yet, despite this significant revelation, the school teachers decide to allow the other group to stay.
Initially, Dee and Quinta Brunson’s character, Janine, have a good relationship. However, once Dee becomes attracted to Janine’s boyfriend, Gregory, the friendship begins to strain. Despite being directly rejected by Gregory, Dee continues to pursue him, eventually jumping to the conclusion that he might be interested in male relationships.
While Charlie is mastering reading skills, Dennis manages to evade the documentary team. Frank clashes with Mr. Johnson regarding the school’s raccoon issue and unexpectedly forms an alliance with Gregory. As for Mac, he plays a significant part in Ava obtaining funds from the golf course developers.
When will Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny crossover Part 2 come out?
In simple terms, a follow-up crossover between Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny is expected to air during the seventeenth season of Abbott Elementary. As stated by McElhenney, this second part will reenact the same events as Part 1 but with an “It’s Always Sunny” twist, and it is scheduled for release approximately four or five months after Part 1, according to Rolling Stone.
