Speculations about potential new James Bonds have circulated for quite some time, yet a recent report from the Puck newsletter suggests that there was one name frequently mentioned who wasn’t actually in contention.
As per Matthew Belloni’s recent update, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who was widely speculated to play the role earlier, didn’t seem to make significant progress in terms of being cast as the next character. Interestingly, the report indicates that there were no advancements regarding any potential Bond contender at all.
A confidant close to Barbara Broccoli revealed to Puck that she had been genuinely puzzled about who could fill Daniel Craig’s shoes in the James Bond franchise, as she stepped back alongside Michael G. Wilson. Prior to Amazon gaining creative control, there were no plans for a successor to Craig.
What’s next for the James Bond franchise?
Following the surprising decision by Broccoli and Wilson to relinquish their long-held producer roles on the franchise, Amazon MGM Studios will now have creative oversight. The partnership between Amazon MGM Studios and the duo involves establishing a new shared company to manage the intellectual property rights associated with the Bond series.
In this new arrangement, Amazon MGM Studios will take charge of the creative direction for the Bond series, a role previously held by both Wilson and Broccoli. Prior to this decision, these two parties were renowned for their guardianship over the franchise. However, in a recent statement, Wilson announced his intention to redirect his efforts towards artistic endeavors and philanthropic causes. Meanwhile, Broccoli expressed her plans to focus on different projects moving forward.
In a recent announcement, Wilson stated that after more than five decades of working on the 007 films, he plans to redirect his efforts towards artistic and philanthropic pursuits. Consequently, he and his partner, Amazon MGM Studios, have decided it’s appropriate for them to guide James Bond into the future.
I’ve devoted my career to carrying forward the fantastic heritage that our father, producer Cubby Broccoli, passed down to Michael and me. I’ve been fortunate enough to collaborate closely with several exceptional actors who portrayed James Bond, as well as numerous gifted artists in the industry. With ‘No Time to Die’ coming to an end and Michael stepping away from the films, I believe it’s time for me to direct my efforts towards other projects.
