Here’s what we know so far about A$AP Rocky’s trial.
A$AP Rocky trial new updates as Rihanna joins court with their sons
The final statements were made during A$AP Rocky’s trial in Los Angeles yesterday, with Rihanna and their two small children, RZA and Riot, present in the courtroom.
The key point being discussed by Deputy District Attorney Paul Przelomiec to the jury is whether the weapon used was genuine or a fake one. Rocky, whose birth name is Rakim Athelaston Mayers, stands accused of two felony charges for alleged shooting at his former friend Terell Ephron, also known as A$AP Relli, in 2021. In this case, Przelomiec firmly believed Rocky was guilty, whereas defense attorney Joe Tacopina contended the gun used was merely a prop from Rocky’s “DMB” music video production. Tacopina referred to Relli as an enraged, pathological liar, and asserted that the injury sustained was not caused by a bullet but just minor “knuckle scrapes.” Surveillance footage of the event exists, though its clarity left some ambiguity in interpretation.
Rihanna attended the final court hearing accompanied by her two sons, RZA and Riot. Dressed in formal attire, the boys were there as A$AP Rocky’s lawyer presented his case, stating that shooting a real gun in such circumstances was illogical. Tacopina argued that the weapon fired blanks and accused the prosecution’s witnesses of dishonesty. Przelomiec suggested that Rocky influenced witnesses during their testimonies, while Tacopina pointed out discrepancies in Relli’s statements.
If the jury finds Rocky guilty, he might spend as long as 24 years behind bars. During the trial, Lou Levin, the tour manager, supported the defense’s argument that Rocky was using a prop gun for safety reasons. On the other hand, Tacopina accused Relli of pursuing financial gain, pointing to recorded conversations where Relli supposedly sought a multimillion-dollar settlement.
After the rebuttals, jurors will start their discussions without either party having shown the supposed weapon in the courtroom.
