A Robin Hood drama series is in the works, and here's what we know so far

As a seasoned gamer and history enthusiast with a soft spot for Robin Hood tales, I’m thrilled to hear about the upcoming series! After binge-watching countless adaptations of this legendary character, I can confidently say that this one seems promising. MGM+, the home of some recently canceled series, has greenlit the project, which is a bit concerning but let’s hope they’ve got their act together this time!

He would steal from the rich to give to the poor. Robin Hood is one of those fictional characters who may be based on some truth that we all love. It’s not surprising then that he’s become a character many creators have wanted to craft stories around.

As an ardent admirer of the legendary outlaw Robin Hood, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news! A new dramatic series inspired by our beloved hero is in the pipeline. Not just a dream anymore, it has been given the green light, and there’s even a confirmed release year! Here’s what we know thus far…

Who has ordered Robin Hood?

MGM+ has officially given the go-ahead for the new series, marking it as part of their family that also includes shows like “Beacon 23” and “The Winter King,” both recently taken off the air. Notably, it’s the same network that brought us “The Chicken Sisters,” a show definitely worth tuning in to!

The series will air where MGM+ is available. It’s not clear yet as to where it will air elsewhere.

It is set to arrive in 2025.

How many episodes will be in the first season?

For its initial run, MGM+ has commissioned ten episodes. This series isn’t labeled as a self-contained one, implying that if things go well, they might produce additional episodes in the future.

Jonathan English and John Glenn are behind Robin Hood

The show in question hails from Jonathan English, the executive producer of “Librarians: The Next Chapter,” which has now found a new broadcast platform since The CW decided not to air it. John Glenn, recognized as the showrunner of “SEAL Team” by its viewers, will be steering this series. This undoubtedly indicates that we’re in for a tale rooted in history with plenty of action!

What to expect in the series

As a passionate reader, I’d like to share my perspective on this captivating story that blends history with a contemporary twist. In essence, it’s a fresh interpretation of an age-old legend, infused with elements that defy the boundaries of reality – making it fantasy in its purest form. Yet, despite its fantastical nature, it skillfully transports us to the past, offering a unique blend of the modern and historical worlds.

Instead of merely retelling the traditional narrative about robbing the wealthy and aiding the needy, this series also focuses on a heartwarming love story. Everyone is familiar with Robin Hood’s affection for Maid Marian, and this production promises to bring their enchanting romance to life.

In this story, Marian is the child of a Norman nobleman, whereas Robin, who goes by “Rob” here, is the son of a Saxon woodland ranger. Their love blossoms as they strive for liberty and righteousness following the Norman conquest of England. Rob emerges as the head of a band of rebels, while Marian opts to work covertly within the system, fostering peace in a manner that leverages their unique skills effectively.
