Jesse Ehrman, an executive at Warner Bros., has hinted at the potential for a sequel to the Minecraft Movie, given the film’s strong box-office performance. Although it garnered a mix of reviews, this live-action adaptation of Mojang Studios’ renowned video game has amassed global earnings surpassing $700 million, far outweighing its estimated production budget of approximately $150 million.

In a recent chat, Ehrman was inquired about whether Warner Bros. has plans for a sequel to the Minecraft Movie. He candidly stated that it would be quite unwise not to produce another installment, given the overwhelmingly favorable feedback they’ve received from cinema-goers.

Furthermore, Ehrman also voiced his opinions regarding the internet sensation known as Chicken Jockey, which was sparked by the movie. This fad saw cinema-goers getting excited during screenings after witnessing the scene featuring Jason Momoa battling a baby zombie on a chicken. In the game, encountering Chicken Jockeys is a relatively uncommon occurrence for gamers.
Ehrman admitted that he wouldn’t have predicted the concept of [chicken jockey] would become a reality, but it was discussed. The unpredictable nature of human behavior and what they find engaging is hard to anticipate. The goal is to make a movie that feels genuine to people’s interaction with the game, and if you focus on authenticity, unexpected things like this can occur.
A movie based on Minecraft was helmed by director Jared Hess. The main roles are filled by Momoa portraying The Garbage Man, Jack Black stepping into the character of Steve, Emma Myers as Natalie, Danielle Brooks taking on Dawn, Sebastian Hansen playing Henry, and Rachel House in the role of Malgosha. Moreover, Matt Berry, Kate McKinnon, and Jemaine Clement are also part of the ensemble cast.
The movie was created by a team consisting of Jason Momoa, Roy Lee, Jon Berg, Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Jill Messick (deceased), Torfi Frans Ólafsson, and Vu Bui.
