Although A-ha is often labeled as a one-hit wonder in the U.S., music connoisseurs recognize that the band’s talent extended far beyond their 1985 hit “Take on Me.” While “Take on Me” was undeniably excellent, it wasn’t the only great song A-ha produced throughout their career.
The reason that track gained such widespread popularity was due to Morten Harket’s exceptional vocal performance. It appears as though he managed to hit every note perfectly during the recording process, and his subsequent acoustic rendition from years ago retained a unique charm. In essence, Morten Harket has a remarkable singing ability.
It’s unfortunate to share that the singer has disclosed through a-ha’s official website that he is battling Parkinson’s disease, and he’s unsure if he’ll perform again in the future. That being said, we won’t get to hear him sing “Take on Me” live anymore, but there are many lesser-known songs of his that deserve recognition.
A-ha’s Morten Harket reveals medical disorder
As per the information on their official website, Harket had been aware of his illness for quite a while. However, he chose not to disclose it publicly until he had informed his close friends and family first. This approach seems reasonable, and it’s entirely his prerogative. The general public doesn’t have a right to such personal details.
Parkinson’s disease is a progressive condition that affects the nervous system, leading to symptoms such as tremors, stiffness, and slow movement, and may also cause depression and anxiety. For a performer who needs to stay on stage for extended periods to engage an audience, this disease can make it extremely challenging or even impossible.
Apart from “Take On Me,” the band a-ha also enjoyed another hit single that made it to the Top 20 in the U.S. This was “The Sun Always Shines on TV,” released in 1985, and it peaked at No. 20.
In the UK, the band had a greater run of success that was more consistent. Their famous single didn’t quite make it to the top spot; instead, it peaked at number two. However, their debut hit, “The Sun Always Shines on TV,” was the one that eventually took the lead on the charts.
As a gaming enthusiast from the UK, let me share my love for music by talking about one of my favorite bands – A-Ha. This group of mine had an impressive run with eight of their singles charting in the top 10! Among them are the tunes “Take On Me” and “The Sun Always Shines on TV,” alongside other favorites like “Train of Thought,” “Hunting High and Low,” “I’ve Been Losing You,” “Cry Wolf,” “The Living Daylights,” and “Stay on These Roads.” Throughout all their hits, I must say that Morten Harket’s voice was the true star – an exceptional instrument that never failed to impress.
