A Different World Sequel Show Sets Cast for Netflix Sitcom

The upcoming sequel of Netflix’s “A Different World,” which has been given an official pilot order over a month ago, has just announced its initial main cast members. In the original sitcom, Jasmine Guy portrayed Whitley and Kadeem Hardison played Dwayne. This series was a spin-off from NBC’s The Cosby Show, with the plan to focus on Lisa Bonet’s character Denise during her college years. However, Bonet decided to leave after only one season due to pregnancy-related reasons.

Who is joining the A Different World sequel’s cast?

According to reports, Netflix has chosen Chibuikem Uche, Maleah Joi Moon, Cornell Young, Jordan Aaron Hall, Alijah Kai Higgins, and Kennedi McClure for the main roles of Kojo, Deborah, Shaquille, Amir, Haggins, and Hazel in an upcoming series. This sequel is anticipated to continue the story of Dwayne and Whitley’s daughter.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that, based on recent updates, the streaming platform is all set to film a pilot for our beloved project this coming June in Atlanta! The main purpose is to gauge the show’s mood and observe the chemistry among the potential cast members. This move is quite unusual for Netflix, as it’s one of the rare instances where they’ve commissioned a pilot for a comedy series. I can hardly wait to see what unfolds!

This project is the brainchild of writer/executive producer Felicia Pride, along with executive producers Debbie Allen, Mandy Summers, Tom Werner, Gina Prince-Bythewood, and Reggie Bythewood. Before embarking on this sequel, all four – Allen, Werner, Prince-Bythewood, and Bythewood – had previously contributed to the original sitcom that aired for six seasons from 1987 to 1993. The comedy series featured stars like Mary Alice, Darryl M. Bell, Sinbad, Charnele Brown, Cree Summer, Glynn Turman, Marisa Tomei, and others.
