A Different World Sequel Series in the Works at Netflix

As a dedicated fan who grew up watching The Cosby Show and its spinoff A Different World, hearing about the sequel series has me jumping for joy! I can still remember the days when I would eagerly wait for the next episode to air, engrossed in the lives of Denise, Whitley, and Dwayne.

The development of a new TV series on Netflix follows the storyline of the daughter of characters Dwayne and Whitley from the original “A Different World” show.

As I recently learned from a report by Deadline, it seems that a new single-camera, half-hour comedy series is on the horizon. This exciting project appears to be spearheaded by writer and executive producer Felicia Pride, with Debbie Allen, Mandy Summers, Tom Werner, Gina Prince-Bythewood, and Reggie Bythewood also serving as executive producers.

What do we know about the A Different World sequel series?

Although specifics about the upcoming series are currently limited, it is rumored to trace the storyline of a character – the daughter of Whitley Gilbert (Jasmine Guy) and Dwayne Wayne (Kadeem Hardison) from the initial show. This new character will be enrolled at Hillman College, the same educational institution that was central in the original program.

Back in 1987, I found myself immersed in a groundbreaking spin-off of the legendary The Cosby Show titled “A Different World.” Originally, this series was brought to life with Lisa Bonet returning as Denise Huxtable, portraying her college journey at Hillman.

After Bonet departed from the show following the initial season, it shifted its focus predominantly towards the relationship between Whitley Gilbert and Dwayne Wayne. The ensemble cast consisted of Guy, Hardison, Marisa Tomei, Dwann Lewis, Mary Alice, Loretta Devine, Daryl M. Bell, and Sinbad, among others.
