What is A Complete Unknown about?

“Based on the bustling music scene of New York City during the early 60s, the movie A Complete Unknown chronicles the rapid ascent of a young Minnesota musician, Bob Dylan (played by Timothée Chalamet), from small concert venues to chart-topping fame. As his songs and enigmatic persona captivate audiences worldwide, the story reaches its climax with his revolutionary electric rock and roll performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965.”

In addition to Timothée Chalamet, the film features Edward Norton portraying Pete Seeger, Elle Fanning taking on Sylvie Russo, Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, Boyd Holbrook as Johnny Cash, Dan Fogler in the role of Albert Grossman, Norbert Leo Butz as Alan Lomax, Scoot McNairy playing Woody Guthrie, P.J. Byrne as Harold Leventhal, and several others.

As a gamer immersed in the world of cinema adaptation, I’ve had the chance to contribute to the scriptwriting process for a film inspired by Dylan Goes Electric!, written by Elijah Wald in 2015. Collaborating with Mangold and Jay Cocks on this project was quite an experience. The movie, which we produced alongside Fred Berger, Alex Heineman, Peter Jaysen, Bob Bookman, Alan Gasmer, Jeff Rosen, and Mangold himself, saw the involvement of Michael Bederman, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, and Andrew Rona as executive producers.

In 2005, Mangold directed the biographical film “Walk the Line,” starring Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon, among others, portraying the life of Johnny Cash. His cinematic works span from “Girl, Interrupted” in 1999 to his recent projects like “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” in 2023. Currently, he’s working on a new movie based on Swamp Thing within James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe.

“The movie ‘A Complete Unknown’ is set to hit U.S. theaters on December 25, 2024, distributed by Searchlight Pictures.”
