Road House 2 Finds New Director After Guy Ritchie’s Exit

After Guy Ritchie’s unexpected departure from Road House 2, Amazon MGM Studios has ultimately selected a director who may lead the upcoming action-thriller sequel. As of now, it remains unknown why the director of Sherlock Holmes chose to step away from this project.

Who will be directing Road House 2?

As reported by Deadline, filmmaker Ilya Naishuller, known for directing Nobody and Heads of State, is in talks to direct Road House 2. The sequel will see the return of Jake Gyllenhaal as Dalton, reprising his role from the original movie. Naishuller will be taking over from Doug Liman, who directed the first installment but was not expected to return due to his past criticisms of Amazon and MGM Studios regarding their decision to release the film through streaming rather than a wide theatrical release. The screenplay for Road House 2 is being written by Will Beall, who previously worked on Bad Boys: Ride or Die.

The sequel’s filming is anticipated to start this autumn. Previous reports indicate that Dave Bautista, known for his work in Guardians of the Galaxy, has reportedly agreed to play a villain. Alongside acting as the main cast, Gyllenhaal will also be involved in production alongside Charles Roven, Alex Gartner, and Josh McLaughlin.

In a new adaptation of Road House, Liman took the helm as director from a script penned by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry. This remake garnered a Tomatometer score of 59% on Rotten Tomatoes after 206 reviews were taken into account. The original film featured UFC sensation Conor McGregor, breakout star Daniela Melchior from The Suicide Squad, Billy Magnussen (Game Night), Gbemisola Ikumelo (The Last Tree), Lukas Gage (The White Lotus), Hannah Love Lanier (A Black Lady Sketch Show), Travis Van Winkle (Accepted), B.K. Cannon (Switched at Birth), Arturo Castro (Broad City), Dominique Columbus (Ray Donovan), Beau Knapp (Southpaw), and Bob Menery.
