This week, Itch.io posted a statement on its website explaining their actions following pressure from activist group Collective Shout. They claim they were compelled to comply with instructions from Mastercard and Visa, who took action based on Collective Shout’s influence. These financial giants have targeted platforms such as Steam and Itch.io, pressuring them to delete certain content. In order to continue processing payments, Itch.io has reluctantly agreed to temporarily remove adult-themed content from their platform. As a result, users have found that games they had previously purchased, which were NSFW in nature, are no longer accessible in their account libraries.
