The live-action Lilo & Stitch 2 has received an exciting update.
The Disney Studios film titled Lilo & Stitch was recently shown in U.S. cinemas this May. This is a modern adaptation of the 2002 animated movie with the same name. Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, the film features Maia Kealoha as Lilo, Sydney Elizabeth Agudong as Nani, Zach Galifianakis as Dr. Jumba Jookiba, Billy Magnussen as Agent Wendell Pleakley, and Courtney B. Vance as Cobra Bubbles in its star-studded cast.
The movie “Lilo & Stitch” has been incredibly successful at the box office, earning over a billion dollars globally. Just recently, it was officially confirmed that a sequel is underway.
What is the Lilo & Stitch 2 update?
Chris Sanders is in final negotiations to write Lilo & Stitch 2, per The Hollywood Reporter.
In collaboration with Dean DeBlois, Sanders was both a writer and director of the initial Lilo & Stitch film. Furthermore, he lends his voice to the character Stitch across various projects including the films from 2002 and 2025, as well as Stitch! The Movie, Lilo & Stitch: The Series, Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch, Leroy & Stitch, and numerous others.
Besides Lilo & Stitch, Sanders has previously directed the upcoming 2024 film The Wild Robot for DreamWorks Animation and Universal Pictures. At present, he’s also developing a follow-up to this movie.
At present, specific details about the plot for Lilo & Stitch 2 are still undisclosed. However, The Hollywood Reporter indicates that it will be an entirely new story, not based on any of the previously created animated Lilo & Stitch sequels. Jonathan Eirich is set to return as producer.
Lilo & Stitch 2 does not yet have a release date from Disney.
Currently, the first live-action version of Lilo & Stitch is still running in cinemas. In essence, the film tells a hilarious yet heartwarming tale about a solitary Hawaiian girl and an escaped extraterrestrial who assists in healing her fractured family.
