Todd Howard, head at Bethesda, has expressed tribute to the creator of Elder Scrolls, Julian LeFay, following the announcement of his passing.
On Twitter, Howard refers to LeFay as a key influencer in the development of The Elder Scrolls and the establishment of Bethesda as a video game company.
In simpler terms, Howard states that if we didn’t have Julian, we wouldn’t be where we are now. Working with Julian was a privilege because he was an extraordinary individual, like a natural force, who inspired everyone to make something remarkable. His influence and spirit will endure not only in our recollections but also in the games we create.
News about LeFay’s demise is being shared by OnceLost Games, a studio he assisted in establishing. They convey to fans that his legacy will persist throughout every domain, every mission, and every moment of enchantment within their forthcoming fantasy RPG titled The Wayward Realms.
Initially, LeFay became part of Bethesda’s team shortly after its establishment, contributing significantly to the creation of pioneering Elder Scrolls games like Arena and Daggerfall. Given his impactful role, a character from the game was actually named after him – Julianos. Later, he teamed up with other Bethesda veterans to establish OnceLost Games. In 2021, they unveiled their latest project, The Wayward Realms.
Over the past week, I’ve been deeply saddened to learn that OnceLost Games’ beloved team member, LeFay, was preparing to spend his last days among those closest to him. Heartbreakingly, today we received the news that he has lost his valiant fight against cancer. My thoughts and condolences are with everyone at OnceLost Games during this incredibly difficult time.
They commented that he had a profound impact on the lives of countless gamers across the globe, sparking creativity in numerous game developers. His passing was deeply felt by our group, our community, and our field as an irreplaceable loss.
