During a recent interview, Pedro Pascal and his co-star Vanessa Kirby from the upcoming Marvel project “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” discussed their experience on set. Interestingly, Kirby shared that Pascal had contracted an eye infection while filming for the movie. In this new Marvel adventure directed by Matt Shakman, Pedro Pascal will portray Reed Richards, also known as Mister Fantastic.

In their latest appearance, the Fantastic Four’s cast graced Jimmy Kimmel Live!, hosted by the talented Alan Cumming as a guest host. They engaged in a True or False game, where Alan posed statements and the cast signaled whether they were “true” or “false.
Following our wrap-up from the game, I couldn’t help but remind Pedro Pascal about the eye infection we both picked up on set from a shared makeup brush while filming Fantastic Four.
Previously, Pascal had experienced an eye infection before. It happened when fans took selfies with him and imitated the death scene of his character Oberyn Martell from Game of Thrones by pressing their thumbs against his eyes. In the show, Oberyn dies after being blinded by Gregor and having his skull crushed in a fight.
During the “True or False” game within the episode, the actor of The Mandalorian made a reference to his previous eye infection. This infection was acknowledged following Simon Cumming’s comment on the matter.
Pedro Pascal, during an interview for The Hollywood Reporter’s 2023 Drama Actors Roundtable, discussed a past eye infection. He recalled, “Earlier in my career, due to ‘Game of Thrones’ and the way my character met his end… people were really keen on taking selfies with their thumbs in my eyes.” At first, he allowed it as he was “genuine” and “happy” about his character’s popularity.
Later on, Pascal mentioned that he had developed a minor eye issue, to which the rest of the group playfully suggested that his glasses were a result of this, as they are usually part of his red carpet attire for film premieres.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters on July 25, 2025.
