Splitgate 2 ‘launched too early’ says developer, will revert back to beta

1047 Games, the developer behind Splitgate 2, has issued a statement to address the criticism the game has faced since its May debut. Recognizing areas where they didn’t meet expectations, the studio has decided to return Splitgate 2 to beta mode while they work on enhancing their first-person shooter gameplay experience.

This afternoon, 1047 Games’ full statement was shared with X. In it, founders Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian admitted that they launched Splitgate 2 prematurely. They had high aspirations for the game, but in their eagerness to share it with everyone, they took on more than they could handle. As a result, they released a product that fell short of their own and fans’ expectations due to rushed features and other mistakes.

Since its launch in May, the player base on PC for Splitgate 2 has been steadily decreasing, as indicated by SteamDB. The game currently holds a “Mixed” rating, with several players voicing concerns about the game’s monetization and available game modes. Specifically, many players have criticized the Battle Royale mode that was heavily publicized.

To correct the issues and improve the gameplay experience, 1047 Games plans to overhaul Splitgate 2’s progression system completely, conduct additional playtests, and gather feedback through surveys. Unfortunately, due to the rough start of Splitgate 2, 1047 Games is reducing their workforce by letting go of some team members. Furthermore, the servers for the original Splitgate will be deactivated permanently in August as a cost-cutting measure. In our review, we found that despite some flaws, Splitgate 2 offers an enjoyable multiplayer shooting experience.
