The video clip is from an extra feature included with the home edition of Lilo & Stitch. In this piece, Chris Sanders, the director and voice actor of the original movie, along with Dean Fleischer Camp, the remake’s director, discuss what sets Stitch apart as a unique character in Disney lore. Additionally, producer Jonathan Eirich shares insights on what makes Lilo so endearing, and why the bond between these two characters has touched audiences so deeply.
Sanders finds it intriguing to observe how different filmmakers and writers portray the property. He considers Stitch as an engaging character, with Donald Duck being his closest Disney counterpart in terms of causing trouble and getting entangled in mischief. Many people identify with Lilo, a unique character we handled delicately while crafting her. She is deep-thinking yet possesses a vibrant imagination.

Beginning July 22, you’ll have the opportunity to rent or purchase the real-life Lilo & Stitch movie on various digital platforms. On August 26, the film will be released in 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD formats. In addition, Disney is set to launch a special 4K UHD Blu-ray SteelBook edition, boasting striking cover art showing Stitch bursting through the cover.
In May 2025, Disney released the live-action adaptation of Lilo & Stitch, which turned out to be a blockbuster hit. To this day, the movie has generated earnings of over $1 billion worldwide, making it one of only two films in 2025 to surpass the $1 billion threshold (Ne Zha 2 raked in $2.2 billion). Notably, Lilo & Stitch now holds the record as the highest-grossing live-action/animated hybrid film ever produced.
Maia Kealoha takes on the role of Lilo in the movie, with Sydney Agudong portraying Nani, Kaipo Dudoit acting as David, Tia Carrere depicting Mrs. Kekoa, Courtney B. Vance as Cobra Bubbles, Amy Hill playing Tūtū, and Jason Scott Lee assuming the character of a luau manager. Meanwhile, the voice talents include Sanders as Stitch, Zach Galifianakis as Dr. Jumba, and Billy Magnussen for Agent Pleakley.
The synopsis describes a modern adaptation of Disney’s 2002 animation ‘Lilo & Stitch.’ This heartwarming and amusing tale follows a solitary Hawaiian girl and an outlaw extraterrestrial who work together to heal her fractured family.
In the script for the film, Chris Kekaniokalani Bright was the one who penned it down. However, the screenplay for the original 2002 movie was written and directed by Sanders and DeBlois. Sanders, in fact, lent his voice to the character in the first movie as well as several other projects such as Lilo & Stitch: The Series, Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch from 2005, and Leroy & Stitch released in 2006.
