Tom Troupe, renowned for his performances in famous series like Star Trek, Cagney & Lacey, and Mission: Impossible, passed away tranquilly from natural causes at his residence in Beverly Hills.
According to a confirmation by his long-standing representative, Harlan Boll, it was reported that the actor unfortunately passed away on July 20, mere five days following his 97th birthday celebration (as reported by The Hollywood Reporter).
Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, Troupe embarked on his acting career in community theater. In 1948, he relocated to New York City and was granted a scholarship to learn at the Herbert Berghof Studio under Uta Hagen’s tutelage. After serving in the Korean War and receiving a Bronze Star, Troupe graced the Broadway stage for the first time as Peter van Daan in The Diary of Anne Frank, debuting in 1957.
The acting group moved to Los Angeles the year after, which marked the start of a broad film career that spanned from the 1960s to the 1990s. He made significant television appearances in shows like The Fugitive, The Wild Wild West, Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman, CHiPs, Knots Landing, Murder, She Wrote, Cheers, and notably, Star Trek. On the silver screen, he was featured in Kelly’s Heroes, Summer School, The Big Fisherman, and Gus Van Sant’s My Own Private Idaho.
Apart from screen roles, Troupe thrived on the stage too. Frequently, he shared the stage with his late wife, Carole Cook, in plays like The Lion in Winter, Father’s Day, and The Gin Game. He was also known for co-writing and acting in his hit one-man play, The Diary of a Madman, which toured extensively. Additionally, he starred alongside Barbara Rush in the popular production Same Time, Next Year on tour. On Broadway, he acted opposite Mia Farrow in Romantic Comedy.
The performer leaves behind his son Christopher, his daughter-in-law Becky, granddaughter Ashley, as well as several nieces and nephews. Regrettably, his spouse, Carole Cook, passed away before him in the year 2023.
