James Gunn has shared his reaction to the script for The Batman 2.
Back in 2022, I was thrilled to witness Matt Reeves’ masterpiece, “The Batman,” grace the big screens across America. With the announcement of a Penguin-centric spin-off series, my excitement has only grown. Now, it seems that we’ll finally get a direct sequel to this modern Batman tale, titled “The Batman: Part II,” slated for release in October 2027. Just recently, the script for The Batman 2 was handed over to Warner Bros. by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, keeping us one step closer to the return of our caped crusader!
What did James Gunn say about The Batman 2 and the DCU?
On The Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gunn openly discussed his initial response to the script for The Batman 2.
He agreed, stating that we’re definitely moving in the correct path. However, there are a few kinks left to iron out. Yet, I believe we’re on the right track without a doubt.
Additionally, Gunn mentioned the DCU’s Batman and hinted that it’s unlikely that both “The Batman 2” and “The Brave and the Bold,” helmed by Andy Muschietti, will hit theaters in the same year.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but share my excitement about the upcoming DCU Batman debut! However, Gunn himself has been tight-lipped about the specific project where this new Batman will make his official entrance, and he hasn’t confirmed whether it will be Robert Pattinson or not. Moreover, there are no plans to merge Reeves’ The Batman Epic Crime Saga with the DCU at this point in time. So, let’s keep our fingers crossed for some thrilling surprises!
Speaking of Alan Ritchson, whose name frequently pops up in discussions about potential Batmans, Gunn expressed his admiration by saying, “I’m a huge fan of Alan Ritchson, both as an actor and as a person. We’ll simply have to wait and see what transpires.
In the animated series Creature Commandos, Batman made a silent appearance without requiring any casting since it was an animation. The character Clayface, who is one of Batman’s villains from the DC Universe, is slated for release in 2026, and there’s speculation that this movie might introduce the DCU Batman. Yet, production on the project is set to start soon, which means swift casting decisions will be necessary.
The Batman 2 arrives on October 1, 2027, from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures.
