For quite some time now, there have been numerous news headlines and public discussions surrounding Wendy Williams‘s court-assigned guardianship. While out in public recently, when asked about her aspirations for the year ahead, she openly expressed that she yearns to be freed from the court-imposed guardianship that has governed her life since 2022.
Wendy Williams talks about her birthday wish
On the eve of my 61st birthday, set to unfold on July 18th, I, Wendy Williams, find myself reflecting on a significant aspect of my life – my guardianship. Recently, I’ve chosen to share this journey with all of you. Last night, in the vibrant city that never sleeps, New York City, I stepped out for a delightful dinner at Delmonico’s Steakhouse. I was joined by my trusted legal advisors, two of them, as well as my dear friend and former executive producer, Suzanne Bass. We laughed, we shared stories, and we looked forward to the future together.
Williams didn’t pause when someone nearby asked her what her wish for this year was. “Free from conservatorship,” she replied, as reported by TMZ. She has been under a court-appointed financial management role for over two years due to concerns about potential financial abuse expressed by Wells Fargo. The conservatorship has become a significant topic in growing public debate.
In June, Kevin Hunter, Williams’ former spouse, filed a 250 million dollar lawsuit at a federal court in New York. This lawsuit alleged that she had been repeatedly mistreated under guardianship. The suit lists 48 defendants, such as her guardian Sabrina Morrissey, Judge Lisa Sokoloff, Wells Fargo, the assisted living facility where she currently lives, and numerous lawyers associated with her case. Lawyers for the hunter assert that Williams has endured severe mistreatment and financial mismanagement under the current setup, alleging a violation of her constitutional rights. As stated in the lawsuit, she has been cut off from her family and friends. Furthermore, it’s claimed that Williams is not allowed regular phone usage and is being forced to stay at the Coterie assisted living facility against her wishes.
Despite the ongoing legal battle, Williams appeared vibrant during Tuesday’s dinner outing.
