The Odyssey Imax Tickets Sell Out a Year Early, Resale Prices Soar

Before even hitting theaters, Christopher Nolan’s film titled The Odyssey has sparked a mad rush to buy tickets. Sales for the Imax 70mm screenings over the July 17–19, 2026 weekend were snapped up within an hour of going on sale at midnight ET on July 17. This swift sellout is said to have brought in approximately $1.5 million and sparked a flurry of resales at high prices across prominent platforms.

The Odyssey Imax tickets being resold for $400

Immediately after The Odyssey’s release, tickets started popping up for sale on marketplaces such as eBay because of the intense interest. A reliable source shared with The Hollywood Reporter that resellers are setting prices for these tickets in the range of $300 to $400, and some listings have even reached $500.

In Dallas, a single screening ticket was found priced at an astonishing 400% markup over its usual retail value of $25-$28. A listing also reportedly provided two seats for a July 19 screening at a whopping $399, while four tickets for AMC Lincoln Square were put up for auction with a starting bid of $1,000.

Imax shared on Twitter an invitation to secure your seats for the initial 70mm IMAX showings of “The Odyssey Movie” directed by Christopher Nolan, premiering in cinemas on July 17th or 26th.

Prominent movie theaters across the U.S., including AMC Lincoln Square (NYC), Universal Cinema AMC (Hollywood), and Regal Irvine Spectrum (OC) experienced full houses. Imax locations in cities like San Francisco, Dublin, Ontario, Fort Lauderdale, Buford, Indianapolis, Grand Rapids, King of Prussia, and Dallas also filled up to maximum capacity.

As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but share my excitement about how rapidly tickets for cinemas like Cineplex Mississauga Square in Canada and Vaughan have been selling out. The same trend is visible across the pond in the U.K., where London’s BFI Imax and Science Museum locations are no exception to this frenzy. Furthermore, reports from Melbourne and the Czech Republic indicate near-full or full capacity at additional sites, demonstrating a global thirst for the big screen experience.

Online, fans voiced their displeasure, sharing their dissatisfaction about the high resale costs and scarcity of tickets.

In simple terms, Christopher Nolan’s movie titled “The Odyssey” retells Homer’s ancient Greek story with Matt Damon playing the role of Odysseus. Notably, this film is being shot entirely using Imax cameras, making it the first commercial production to do so exclusively.

The main actors are Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Mia Goth, and others. Despite the filming process still ongoing, Universal recently unveiled a sneak peek in cinemas before the release of Jurassic World: Rebirth this month.

In his latest movie, Oppenheimer, Nolan raked in an impressive global box office total of $975.8 million. A significant chunk of that, about $190 million, came from Imax screenings alone. The upcoming film The Odyssey is estimated to have a production budget of approximately $250 million.
