James Gunn’s New Comments Have DCU Fans Hoping for Green Arrow Announcement

Fans of the DC Universe are optimistic that a Green Arrow project might be on the horizon, following James Gunn’s recent statements concerning Superman.

Currently, Superman is being shown in cinemas across the United States. This film, scripted and orchestrated by Gunn, is a production of DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures. In the lead role as our superhero is David Corenswet, with Rachel Brosnahan portraying Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult taking on the character of Lex Luthor.

In December 2024, Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe (DCU) was unveiled, starting with the series Creature Commandos. Following the release of Superman, Peacemaker Season 2 will be the next DCU project. It is anticipated that Lanterns, Supergirl, and Clayface will debut in 2026.

What did James Gunn say about Superman?

In an interview with CBS Mornings, Gunn discussed his rationale behind making Superman (Kal-El) less all-powerful in his version of the character. He explained how this creative decision connects to other DC characters such as Oliver Queen, also known as Green Arrow.

Gunn stated, “Some comic writers, such as Grant Morrison, crafted captivating tales using the concept of all-powerful Superman. However, for my preferences, I’ve always found Batman more appealing because Superman could be overly powerful at times. Our goal is to create a multiverse filled with characters. I didn’t want a character so strong that an archer wouldn’t make a difference.

Fan anticipation is building, as they eagerly await a possible Green Arrow announcement within the DC Universe in the not-too-distant timeframe.

As of now, no actor has been confirmed for the role of Oliver Queen in the DC Universe, but the cast of the upcoming Superman film includes Edi Gathegi portraying Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion playing Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica/The Engineer, and others.
