It appears that the anticipated release date for Ballard Season 2 might come sooner than we thought, as Maggie Q recently shared some intriguing news about the show’s development. In a recent interview, she disclosed that the writers are currently working on the next storyline and even suggested a potential start of filming in fall, which could lead to a release date in the not-too-distant future.
Ballard Season 2 could get a 2026 release date
Maggie Q recently revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the team is actively developing a second season of Ballard, and writers are already working on the upcoming storyline. “We have a writers’ room,” she explained, “and they’ve been busily writing. The plot for the next season is incredibly engaging.” Q also hinted that if production goes ahead as planned, they would likely start filming in fall 2025, which could lead to a 2026 release date for Season 2.
The program debuted on Amazon Prime Video on July 9, 2025, and swiftly ascended to the top of their TV rankings. It was evident from the start that fan enthusiasm was high. “Upon learning that I would be part of this show,” Q said, “I received more texts, messages, and people reaching out than for any project I’ve undertaken throughout my entire career.
In the spinoff series set within the Bosch universe, actress Q portrays Renée Ballard, who heads up the LAPD’s cold cases unit. The first season ended with a suspenseful cliffhanger, but despite positive feedback, there is no certainty about its renewal. “The television industry has changed so much,” she said, “It barely resembles what it once was, and shows can be abruptly canceled in an instant.” She also shared memories of times when a writing team was assembled, yet the show still got axed.
Fabel Entertainment created the series Ballard, and it’s said that Henrik Bastin spent more than a year trying to sign on Q before she agreed. Unlike many other productions, Season 1 was filmed in Los Angeles – an unusual choice as most productions film in Canada, even though initial plans were for California. However, the intention to shoot in California was not realized.
