AMC Networks has shared updates about the upcoming third season of “The Walking Dead: Dead City,” providing a rough timeline for its release.
What do we know about The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3?
As per AMC’s announcement, The Walking Dead: Dead City will resume for its third season. Notably, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan are set to reprise their roles as Negan and Maggie, respectively. Additionally, it was disclosed that Seth Hoffman is joining the team as the showrunner. Hoffman has previous experience with The Walking Dead universe, having contributed as a writer in the original series.
Although we don’t have a specific release date for The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 yet, based on the timeline of Season 2, it might take about two years from its announcement to its premiere. Since Season 2 was officially announced in July 2023 and premiered in May 2025, if the show maintains that production schedule, we can expect Season 3 to come out around mid-2027.
As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that Dan McDermott, AMC Studios president of entertainment, recently acknowledged the tireless efforts of our beloved showrunner, Eli Jorné, who dedicated two years to our cherished series. Intriguingly, he also hinted at the exciting developments we can expect in Season 3!
Eli Jorné’s two seasons of Dead City have been appreciated for their innovative twists on familiar characters and expansion of the bustling Walking Dead Universe by unveiling a fresh part of the walker apocalypse,” McDermott commented. “With our ongoing goal to develop engaging tales for dedicated TWD fans, we’re thrilled to welcome seasoned Walking Dead veteran Seth Hoffman as the leader of the next season. Alongside talented actors Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, this new season will introduce fresh enemies and partnerships, testing the limits of Maggie and Negan’s complex relationship.
In this new series, the main roles are played by long-time franchise members Lauren Cohan as Maggie and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan. Alongside them, Scott M. Gimple is also involved in production. The ensemble cast additionally features Gaius Charles, Mahina Napoleon, Željko Ivanek, Jonathan Higginbotham, Trey Santiago-Hudson, Logan Kim, and Charlie Solis.
