Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will feature an upgrade path from Switch to Switch 2

This summer, Mario Kart World isn’t the only party racing game vying for attention. Sega is planning to make its own impact with Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, and this week they revealed more information about the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions. Among other things, they announced an upgrade option that lets players upgrade their original Switch version into a Switch 2 edition.

On their newly created FAQ page about Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, Sega disclosed information regarding the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions. The developers have revealed crucial aspects of the game. The game can be purchased in both physical and digital formats, with the physical version being a 64 GB cartridge. Regardless if you buy it for Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, or OLED, you’ll have the opportunity to upgrade to a Switch 2 version for just $10, as long as you eventually purchase the new console.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is gradually becoming a strong competitor to Mario Kart World, primarily due to its multiplatform availability and crossplay feature, unlike the Switch 2 exclusive MKW. Beyond that, it’s also carving out its unique identity with a large roster of Sega characters, numerous customizable vehicle components, and a variety of engaging tracks to discover. Our recent preview of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds left us confident that it has the potential to thrive independently from Mario Kart World.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will be released in September. Keep checking back here on Shacknews under the Sonic Racing category for further announcements and information.
