We Got Zelda And Link! Nintendo Confirms First Cast Members For The TLoZ Movie

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been buzzing with whispers about a “The Legend of Zelda” movie for eons. But now, it’s no longer just hearsay – the epic struggle against the dark forces threatening Hyrule is officially making its way onto the silver screen! This comes as a bittersweet relief after the heartbreaking shutdown of that fan-made Zelda film we were all rooting for.

The Legend of Fancasts

So far, no formal information has been disclosed, resulting in a surge of fan theories, conjectures, and, above all, suggestions for the cast (fancasts).

It was evident for numerous individuals that Tom Holland would be ideal for the character of Link. However, there were others who strongly felt that Thomas Brodie-Sangster was the only suitable choice to embody the Hero of Time. As for the Princess of Hyrule, opinions were equally divided. Hunter Schafer expressed her desire to portray Zelda, while some fans had previously imagined Anya Taylor-Joy in this role.

According to a recent public announcement, Shigeru Miyamoto, the mind behind Link’s journeys, declared that they have successfully found their cast after concluding the actor selection process.

Two thirds of the Triforce have been found!

In the message, he writes:

This is Miyamoto. I am pleased to announce that for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda, Zelda will be played by Bo Bragason-san, and Link by Benjamin Evan Ainsworth-san. I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen.

The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 7, 2027. Thank you for your patience.

21-year-old Bragason has been featured before in the fantasy-adventure series “Renegade Nell”, available on Netflix and BBC, as well as in the crime drama “The Jetty” broadcasted by BBC.

At merely 16 years old, Ainsworth has garnered recognition through a limited number of roles to date, with his most significant contributions being in the horror series on Netflix titled “The Haunting of Bly Manor“.

Even though some within the community had imagined Hunter Schafer as an ideal Zelda, and felt she would’ve been fantastic for the role – potentially sending a powerful message to the LGBTQ+ community – it is crucial that Bragason gets the opportunity to show her skills first, before facing criticism or online backlash.

A movie more mysterious than the Water Temple

Apart from what’s been revealed, little is known about the upcoming movie. It remains uncertain whether its narrative will adhere to a particular game’s storyline or craft an entirely fresh tale. Given that both actors, particularly Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, are quite young, there’s speculation that time travel, a recurring theme in many Zelda games and initially intended by Miyamoto for the original title, could be incorporated into this film adaptation of Hyrule’s journeys as well.

It’s evident that the community’s excitement about the upcoming movie has reached unprecedented levels, and the speculation regarding it will undoubtedly persist vigorously.

To put it straightforwardly: It’s likely that you’ve already made up your mind about which characters – such as Ganon, the Great Fairy, Malon, or Saria – will be in the film, should they appear. Please share your ideal cast for these roles by commenting below!
