Upcoming Oblivion Remastered update may be the RPG’s most important yet, as Bethesda is fixing a door that’s been irking lore fans for the past 2 months

It’s been approximately two months since Bethesda Game Studios launched their eagerly anticipated RPG remake, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered. This gives the developers ample opportunity to fix any issues that have come up – including a seemingly lore-violating door, as reported.

Last week, Bethesda released an early update for Oblivion Remastered on Steam, which includes a new difficulty mode and other enhancements. One subtle change introduced by patch 1.2 is a revamp of the Black Door, a topic that has generated discussion online recently due to changes that deviate from its original lore in the Elder Scrolls series and no longer emit the same glow as it did in 2006.

Players voiced their dismay because it lacked “an ominous atmosphere and a crimson glow, accompanied by a chilling sound, like a portal to the underworld”; however, this wasn’t the only issue. The door, acting as the gateway to the Dark Brotherhood’s Cheydinhal Sanctuary, originally portrayed the Night Mother as being mother to seven children by Sithis, rather than the five mentioned in the murderous group’s folklore.

In the latest update patch 1.2, the door in question has undergone a significant transformation, as observed by PC gamers who have access to the Steam beta version of the update. One enthusiast’s recent Reddit post reads, “They fixed the Dark Brotherhood door.” The post continues, “It seems no one has mentioned this yet, but they restored the glow and corrected the depiction on the door.” A screenshot accompanying the post reveals that the door now radiates a deep red light instead of showing seven children as it previously did.
