Severance Season 3 Release Date Gets Disappointing Update

Matt Cherniss, Apple TV+’s programming chief, provided an update on the anticipated timeline for Severance Season 3, which did not seem immediate. The premiere of the initial season occurred on February 18, 2022, and the second season began streaming on January 17, 2025. Given that there was a three-year gap between the releases of the first and second seasons, there’s been talk among fans about whether we might expect another wait of three years for Season 3.

During an interview with Variety, Matt Cherniss was questioned about the potential three-year delay for Severance Season 3. He emphatically stated that no one wanted such a delay and hinted at progress by saying they were “moving in that direction.” Cherniss further expressed his eagerness to see where the series unfolds, sharing that he had some ideas about its future direction, but preferred to remain surprised like everyone else.

Cherniss expressed his optimism about their present situation when asked if Season 3 was progressing smoothly. He added, “I believe everyone will simply pause and appreciate our current position.” He further reassured fans that the creative team for Severance is working diligently on the next season as swiftly as possible.

Cherniss clarified, “When a series like Severance becomes successful, there’s a strong desire to maintain that quality in all aspects when the show returns. This requires careful planning, which takes some time. However, they are working diligently on it, and I’m feeling quite optimistic about our progress.
