In a recent chat, actor Edi Gathegi, known for portraying Michael Holt/Mister Terrific in the DCU’s Superman, expressed that the post-credit scene of the film felt like a hint to him about his character’s potential role in the franchise’s future. It’s worth mentioning that Gathegi has previously appeared in a superhero movie, where he played Armando Munoz/Darwin in X-Men: First Class. However, despite Darwin’s comic book ability to adapt to any situation and survive anything, the character met his end in the movie.
Edi Gathegi explains how Superman’s post-credits scene teases Mister Terrific’s DCU future
In an interview with Variety, Gathegi expressed that the Superman post-credit scene seemed like a “promise” for his potential role in the DC Universe, contrasting it with his limited connection to the X-Men movie franchise.
When asked about the creation of the end-credit scene, Gathegi explained, “That part was already in the original movie. I wasn’t involved in the decision-making process, but it’s thrilling for me because it feels like a promise. Whether DC plans to fulfill this promise or not, having that moment at the very end of the film is a significant closure for me, given that I was abruptly killed before the main battle in X-Men: First Class, and now I find myself as the last one standing.
In the final scene following the credits of the Superman movie, Mister Terrific joins David Corenswet’s Superman in helping rebuild the damaged structures in Metropolis after the film’s conclusion. When Superman notices that some parts of a recently mended building seem out of place, it irritates Terrific, who storms off. This causes Superman to acknowledge his tendency to be “a bit of a jerk” at times.
In an interview, Gathegi shared that he learned about the post-credits scene on the movie’s opening day through a message from James Gunn, who directed Superman and shares co-leadership at DC Universe. Furthermore, Gathegi explained that although he had agreed to a multi-project deal with DC Studios, he wasn’t well-informed about the details.
Superman is currently in theaters.
