Since 2009, Nathan Fillion has accumulated a dozen superhero movie roles, most recently playing Guy Gardner/Green Lantern in James Gunn’s Superman. But did you know that Fillion also provided the voice for Headpool in the 2024 film Deadpool & Wolverine?
Fillion’s journey into portraying superheroes started with providing the voice for Vigilante on the small screen in Justice League Unlimited, but he is particularly renowned for voicing Hal Jordan/Green Lantern in DC animated films. He lent his voice to this character in Green Lantern: Emerald Knights (2011), Justice League: Doom (2012), Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox (2013), Justice League: Throne of Atlantis (2015), The Death of Superman (2018), and Reign of the Supermen (2019). Additionally, he voiced Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman (2009) and played T.D.K. in The Suicide Squad (2021). Moreover, he made appearances in all three of Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies, although his scenes in Vol. 2 were eventually removed from the final cut.
What did Nathan Fillion say about his Deadpool & Wolverine cameo?
During an interview with Entertainment Weekly about his role as Guy Gardner in Superman, Fillion shared how he landed the voice role of Headpool in Deadpool and Wolverine. He explained that this opportunity originated in 2016 while working on the initial Deadpool production.
In simpler terms, Nathan Fillion mentioned that he was originally part of Deadpool’s first film, but his scene didn’t make it to the final cut. Since he was shooting Castle at the same time, his role must have been minor and unrecognizable. You can find this deleted scene if you purchase the digital version of the movie. The scene where Fillion played the towel guy at the strip club is one of the bonus features on the home video release.
After that, Fillion shared that Reynolds had invited him for an audition in Deadpool 2, which was thoughtful of him. We’ve stayed connected since then. Reynolds is truly generous, and he enjoys sharing success with others. He has a wealth of fantastic opportunities, and he often extends those chances to his friends.
But nothing happened until the collaboration between Deadpool & Wolverine, when Reynolds asked Fillion to lend his voice for a character as a personal favor. “It’s me doing him a favor,” the actor joked. “We recorded various lines. We began with one character, then shifted to portraying Headpool, and finally we were fine-tuning the jokes.
Among a select group of performers, Fillion has had roles in both the DC Extended Universe (DCU) and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
You can stream Deadpool and Wolverine on Disney+, whereas Superman is currently showing in cinemas worldwide.
