In the midst of its planned premiere, the movie “Janaki V vs State of Kerala” encountered a legal hurdle due to the title’s use of the name ‘Janaki.’ This character’s name led to complications, and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) initially refused to approve the film, causing its release from June 27, 2025, to be postponed. However, after a series of disputes, the producers have successfully set a new release date for the movie.
Janaki V vs State of Kerala new release date
On Instagram, the movie’s official account shared an engaging poster and announced a revised release date along with a title change for the Malayalam legal drama. The film is now known as “Janaki V vs State of Kerala” and will hit theaters on July 17, 2025. It has been classified as UA 16+.
Behind every delay, there’s a truth strong enough to fight for – and in the end, that truth will ultimately triumph! This is the tagline for the film “JANAKI V v/s STATE OF KERALA,” set to be released worldwide on July 17th.
More about Janaki V vs State of Kerala controversy
The main debate about the movie focused largely on the inclusion of the term “Janaki” in its title, which is a symbolic reference to the character of Sita from the epic tale, the Ramayana.
As a devoted admirer, I’d rephrase it this way: “I, myself, have learned that the CBFC has communicated to the Kerala High Court that they will only provide certification for the movie if its title is altered to either ‘Janaki V vs State of Kerala’ or ‘V Janaki vs State of Kerala.’
Moreover, they requested that the character’s name, Janaki, not be audible in a particular courtroom sequence. It is said that the filmmakers consented to this condition previously.
When JSK’s producer blamed Mohanlal’s film Empuraan for former’s certification delay
Recently, the producer of the film “Janaki V vs State of Kerala,” Suresh Kumar, spoke about the movie’s delayed release due to necessary censorship procedures.
He argued that the CBFC had become more cautious after Mohanlal’s film Empuraan was released.
According to him, “The film Empuraan needed to be revised because of the uproar it caused. This incident made the Censor Board more careful. All subsequent issues seem to have originated from that point.
