A fresh backstage picture recently unveiled gives us our first clear sight of Milly Alcock donning the role of Supergirl, which was shared during the anticipated release period of Superman (2025). This intriguing snapshot provides a close-up view of her costume before her standalone debut in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

The photos, initially posted by our department’s co-head, Lindsay McAllister on Instagram, depict Alcock working at the Fortress of Solitude set. This is where her character Kara Zor-El makes a brief appearance in Superman’s final scene. Afterward, McAllister removed the initial post.

As a gaming enthusiast, I was thrilled to witness Alcock’s appearance in the latest DC movie – it was the first time Superman and Supergirl shared the screen in live action! In one scene, a tipsy Kara swung by to grab Krypto. This little moment kicked off the on-screen encounter between our Kryptonian relatives, setting a new standard for interactions within the freshly minted DC Universe.
In the upcoming “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” movie, due for release on June 26, 2026, Amock will take the lead role. The behind-the-scenes photos reveal her costume resembles David Corenswet’s Superman suit quite closely. This design aims to create a cohesive Kryptonian appearance within the DC Universe.
Previously, James Gunn has confirmed that his interpretation of Supergirl, portrayed by Alcock, is inspired by the “Woman of Tomorrow” comic created by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. According to Gunn, this version of Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl, will be more hardcore compared to her counterpart, Superman. This distinction is due to their contrasting upbringings.
In 2023, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Gunn discussed the contrast between Superman, who was sent to Earth and nurtured by caring parents since infancy, versus Supergirl, who grew up on a planet… and witnessed those around her perish.
Filming for Supergirl is currently happening at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, with Craig Gillespie directing and Ana Nogueira penning the script. Alcock joins Matthias Schoenaerts, portraying Krem of the Yellow Hills, while Eve Ridley takes on the role of Ruthye Mary Knolle. The character’s debut in Superman sets the stage for her standalone movie coming up next year.
