It’s pointless to fully grasp Justin Bieber’s level of popularity compared to Taylor Swift, who is globally recognized as a pop icon and top artist. However, Bieber isn’t trailing too far behind. As of last Friday, he has released a total of seven studio albums, with the first six reaching number one on the U.S. charts.
One time, whatever the artist touched would transform into gold. Lately, however, his recent albums haven’t been as successful compared to before. They manage to reach number one on charts, but they don’t maintain that position for long. Surprisingly, even an album of Justin Bieber’s that underperformed, such as the 2021 album “Justice”, managed to sell over 3 million copies across the globe.
For the past year, Bieber has openly discussed his battles with mental health issues. This is particularly evident on his Instagram where he often speaks of feeling “broken” and “unworthy.” Once known for an air of arrogance, at 31 years old, he appears to have been marked by life’s passage.
Justin Bieber’s surprise album might be his most personal yet
It’s possible that his recent album titled “SWAG” holds some significance. This unexpected release took place on a Friday, and it’s not just another casual EP. The album contains no less than 21 tracks, each of which can be considered full songs, despite the fact that one does not include Justin Bieber. The final track, “Forgiveness,” includes gospel singer Marvin Winans in its lineup.
This could seem surprising, but the tune aligns perfectly with Justin Bieber’s latest album as if it were any other track on the collection. Instead of a series of beeps and bleeps, _SWAG_ has a more subdued, intellectual, acoustic feel with an emphasis on emotions.
In simpler terms, the album isn’t necessarily superior to his past works, but it represents Justin Bieber in a more intimate and genuine manner. He’s not trying to conform to certain expectations, but rather expressing himself authentically.
He’s very transparent regarding some aspects of his personal life. He acknowledges that marriage and parenthood can present challenges, which most people are aware of, yet it appears Bieber is only now discovering this truth. For quite some time, he was known as a pop star, but it seems he’s recently been focusing more on being a human being.
It seems like life has taken on a greater sense of authenticity, and this is mirrored in his new album. We’re all benefiting from it, and I hope Justin Bieber continues to thrive moving forward.
