Lionsgate Buyer Frontrunner Emerges for John Wick Studio

According to a recent report by Bloomberg, it’s possible that the studio responsible for popular film series such as The Hunger Games, John Wick, Madea, The Twilight Saga, and many others – Lionsgate – might be acquired by another studio.

Who is the frontrunner to buy Lionsgate?

According to Bloomberg’s recent report, it appears that Legendary Entertainment, an independent film and television studio known for series like Dune and Christopher Nolan’s Batman films, is contemplating a merger with Lionsgate. The report indicates that Legendary, supported by Apollo Global Management, made this move following Lionsgate’s completion of its separation from Starz in May.

Currently, there’s talk between Legendary and Lionsgate about a possible collaboration, where they might jointly produce several films as a trial to evaluate their compatibility. As of now, it’s uncertain where these discussions stand, so we’ll need further updates before any tangible progress becomes apparent.

If Legendary Entertainment decides to proceed with an acquisition, it’s expected to cost a substantial amount. Lionsgate, currently valued at $1.8 billion on the market, is estimated to be worth around $4.6 billion following its separation from Starz. This valuation rise is partly due to the ownership of some of the world’s most successful film franchises by Lionsgate. However, it’s important to note that Legendary Entertainment has expressed interest in acquiring companies before.

It was previously rumored that both Legendary and Apollo might be planning to acquire Paramount Pictures’ movie division, along with Paramount Global. However, this deal didn’t materialize. Yet, it appears that Legendary remains open to exploring any opportunities that may come their way.
