Rachel Brosnahan and James Gunn on if Lois Lane could be Superwoman

During a recent chat, the seasoned movie director shared his views about the possibility of Lois Lane transforming into Superwoman in the upcoming Superman sequel.

At a Q&A event with Wired, James Gunn was joined by Rachel Brosnahan, David Corenswet, and Nicholas Hoult. During the session, someone asked, “Does Lois Lane ever gain powers?” In response, Brosnahan revealed, “In All-Star Superman, she transforms into Superwoman for a day on her birthday.” Besides appearing in All-Star Superman #3 from 2006, Lane has also been granted powers in Action Comics #60 from 1943 and Superman #19 from 2024.

Later on, Brosnahan inquired if Gunn found himself “inspired” by the comics and contemplated granting powers to Lois Lane in the upcoming Superman sequel. To this, he affirmed his inspiration and stated, “Whenever I picture her with abilities, I think, ‘This is meant to be… This is Rachel’s.’ She was ecstatic about being chosen as Lois Lane, yet a part of her also yearned, ‘I wish I could fly.’

After Rachel Brosnahan spoke to the audience, she said, “Pass along to James that you’d love a sequel featuring Lois Lane flying.” In response, James Gunn stated that such a request would be the only thing he will listen to regarding “Threads” from fans.

At present, there hasn’t been any formal declaration about Superman 2. In a recent conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn hinted, “What I’m engaged in has some connection…Yes, yes, yes, yes. But is it a straightforward Superman sequel? I wouldn’t necessarily confirm that.”
