Kid Cudi’s “Grave” Leans Into a Pop Sound

Summary

  • Kid Cudi has dropped “Grave,” the second single lifted from his forthcoming studio album Free
  • Similar to its predecessor, album lead single “Neverland,” the song leans into a more pop/indie sound
  • Samuel Bayer directed the music video

True to his word, Kid Cudi unveiled the second song from his upcoming venture titled “Free.” Entitled “Grave,” this tune further showcases the pop-oriented style that he’s been exploring recently.

In keeping with the same musical world as their lead single “Neverland,” the song “Grave” certainly seems to fit right in. Expanding upon the album’s central theme of boundless freedom, this three-minute-plus track is accompanied by a visually striking music video directed by Samuel Bayer, who has collaborated with several rock and alternative bands like The Rolling Stones, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, The Cranberries, and The Strokes.

The number and arrangement of songs on the album titled “Free” haven’t been revealed yet, but it is known that there will be a total of 13 tracks, including “Neverland” as the second track and “Grave” as the ninth one.

Cudi isn’t new to the realm of pop music, as he’s previously shown a preference for an indie-style sound in albums like “Speedin’ Bullet 2 Heaven,” and throughout his varied body of work.
