David Corenswet Reveals People Called Him Superman Even Before His Casting

Back in the day, before I stepped into the suit for James Gunn’s latest flick, folks used to call me ‘Superman’ way ahead of time. Just recently, during an interview, I reminisced about the chuckles my pals would stir up by likening me to the Man of Steel.

David Corenswet shares how he was called Superman before casting

During an interview on BBC Radio 1, the actor David Corenswet revealed that numerous individuals have commented on his suitability for the role of Superman.

In one of my school days, I was affectionately dubbed “Superman” by my friends – and it wasn’t because I wore a cape! You see, when that pesky smoke alarm went off, I leaped from my room in just my underwear to silence it. Guess the resemblance to the Man of Steel was more than just a name!

In a playful manner, Corenswet implied that his roommate had visualized or imagined the cape, possibly due to a resemblance he shares with a superhero character from his TV show The Politician, where one character also remarked that he looks similar to Superman.

In simpler terms, Corenswet expressed that he found it hard to believe when asked if he wanted to play the character of Superman. He wondered, “Who would dare to express a desire to portray Superman someday? That’s quite an absurd notion!

Later on, the chance to audition for a new DC movie came up for him, which happened several years after. In this instance, the House of Cards actor decided to create his audition tape together with his spouse.

Approximately six weeks following his audition, Corenswet was given an opportunity to perform a screen test for the role, thereby transforming his long-cherished aspiration into a tangible achievement.

During the same interview, director James Gunn revealed that Corenswet’s physical resemblance to Superman played a significant part in him landing the role. Moreover, Gunn mentioned that Corenswet possessed both the acting talent and the physical prowess required for the character.

Currently showing in cinemas, Superman is being portrayed by David Corenswet. Critics are already singing praises for his positive depiction of the beloved superhero. According to David Rooney from The Hollywood Reporter, “Corenswet delivers a striking performance as both Superman and Clark Kent, filled with self-deprecating humor, endearing charm, and touching vulnerability.
