Ne Zha 2 English dub gets august release date, Michelle Yeoh to lead

Michelle Yeoh expressed her gratitude for being involved in Ne Zha 2, an impressive milestone in Chinese animation that demonstrates how stories can transcend cultural boundaries. It’s a delight to share this with English-speaking audiences, and I eagerly anticipate everyone enjoying the magic, heartfelt emotions, stunning artistry, and enchantment of this film when it hits theaters.

In a Lunar New Year celebration held in China on January 29, 2025, Ne Zha 2, directed by Yang Yu (Jiaozi), was unveiled. This movie has generated an impressive global revenue of over $2.2 billion, with an astounding $2 billion of that earned within China’s box office.

This animated film currently holds the title as the highest-earning animated movie ever made. It also tops the list of non-English films with the highest earnings, and ranks fifth among all movies globally. Remarkably, it surpassed Star Wars: The Force Awakens in a single region within just 11 days.

The story revolves around characters Ne Zha and Ao Bing, who have become one entity after being struck by divine lightning. The narrative primarily focuses on the ancient master Taiyi Zhenren’s scheme to reconstruct their bodies using the seven-colored lotus flower. The upcoming sequel capitalizes on the acclaimed 2019 adaptation of Ne Zha, which presented the mythological hero in a contemporary animated fashion.

Back in April 2025, at the Beijing International Film Festival, I was thrilled to learn that CMC unveiled the English-language rerelease of a film I’m a huge fan of! This movie had already garnered $20.8 million during its initial North American run. As for the details about Michelle Yeoh’s character in the English dub, the studio’s keeping it under wraps for now, but I can hardly wait to find out!
