On February 7, 2025, Thandel, featuring Naga Chaitanya as the main character, made its grand entry onto cinema screens. After its cinematic release and online streaming premiere, this film broke records in TV ratings, achieving an unprecedented milestone in TRP (Television Rating Points) numbers.
Thandel clocks in the second-highest record in TRP
On their official Twitter account, Thandel’s creators announced that the movie was a massive hit following its television debut. It’s reported to have achieved a TRP (Television Rating Point) score of 10.32, placing it as the second-highest rated program on Zee Telugu in 2025.

According to a report from Gulte, just three Telugu films broke the double-digit TRP barrier in the year 2025. Venkatesh Daggubati’s Sankranthiki Vasthunnam led the pack, with Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 on Star Maa taking second place, and Thandel rounding out the top three.
It’s worth noting that Sankranthiki Vasthunnam was simultaneously launched on Zee Telugu, setting a new high for ratings on the channel, with Thandel following closely.
About Thandel
In this retelling, the film spotlights Raju, a fearless fisherman who unwittingly ventures into Pakistani waters. The plot revolves around his deep-seated love for fishing and his cherished companion, Sathya, affectionately called Bujji Thalli. Notably, the story is based on a real-life event that occurred to a resident of Srikakulam.
In addition to Chay, the movie features Sai Pallavi, Aadukalam Naren, Divya Pillai, Karunakaran, Kalpa Latha, Babloo Prithiveeraj, and several others in pivotal roles. You can watch it online on Netflix.

Naga Chaitanya will soon take on the lead role for what’s currently known as NC24, a movie with a reportedly high budget among his career projects. This upcoming film promises to showcase him in an entirely fresh character that sets him apart from his previous roles.
The forthcoming film is under the leadership of directors Karthik Varma Dandu (Virupshaka and Kartikeya), with Sukumar being responsible for the story’s creation. As BVSN Prasad, Sukumar, and Bapineedu are the producers, Ragul Dharuman will be in charge of the film’s cinematography.
