Seeing Fantastic Four in IMAX Makes New MCU Villain Even More Terrifying

The director of the Fantastic Four film, Matt Shakman, has subtly suggested that the IMAX screen’s aspect ratio might be altered when Galactus makes his appearance in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.

This month, the Marvel film “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” will hit U.S. theaters. Kevin Feige is the producer of this movie, and it features Pedro Pascal portraying Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Benn Grimm/The Thing, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, Julia Garner as Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer, and Ralph Ineson as Galactus.

What did Matt Shakman say about Fantastic Four in IMAX?

In a recent sneak peek video for Fantastic Four’s IMAX premiere, Shakman mentioned that the film was specifically crafted to be shown entirely on IMAX screens. He explained that viewers will not only travel through space but also experience the grandeur of Manhattan, a city with a vertical layout. Moreover, he emphasized that they captured the scale of the city perfectly. Furthermore, he hinted at encountering something massive in the universe, and then, as if adjusting the video’s aspect ratio, stated that the film embraces and highlights the IMAX format.

In a 1960s-style, futuristic setting, Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four: First Steps brings forth Marvel’s original family – Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (played by Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). They confront their toughest challenge yet, juggling their heroic duties with their family ties. They are tasked with protecting Earth from a ravenous cosmic entity known as Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his mysterious ally, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). However, the situation becomes even more personal when Galactus threatens to consume our planet along with everyone on it.

Alongside Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne, and Sarah Niles, this film boasts an impressive ensemble of actors.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits United States theaters and IMAX on July 25, 2025.
