Larian Studios, Chucklefish, 4J Studios and more join UK Video Games Council to support games industry growth in Britain

The United Kingdom’s administration unveiled its freshly established UK Games Industry Association, a platform aimed at nurturing and expanding the video games sector in Britain. Given that it’s the fastest-expanding entertainment industry—even amid global job cuts—the British government intends to further promote game development within this region.

Through a press announcement, the United Kingdom Video Games Council has been established, comprising figures from various sectors of the gaming industry, such as Larian Studios, creators of Baldur’s Gate 3. In collaboration with the UK Minister for Creative Industries, Arts, and Tourism, Sir Chris Bryant, certain game developers will assist in fostering the continued expansion of the gaming sector within the UK.

According to the statement, key figures from various sectors are going to collaborate with the government to foster development, creativity, and global expansion for the British video game and interactive entertainment sector.

The UK Video Games Council is jointly led by Jason Kingsley, CEO of Rebellion, and Nick Button-Brown, chairman of Outright Games. Additionally, several game developers serve on this governmental board as well.

  • Larian Studios studio head Tara Saunders
  • 4J Studios chairman Chris Van Der Kuyl
  • Chucklefish COO Donna Orlowski
  • UKIE CEO Nick Poole
  • Microsoft Senior Corporate Counsel Tim Varney
  • TIGA CEO Dr Richard Wilson
  • Uswto Games VRO Maria Sayans
  • Take-Two senior director Dave Gould
  • Interior/Night studio director Charu Desodt
  • Miniclip CEO Saad Choudri
  • Green BiT CEO Emily Bailey

Twice a year, there’s a scheduled gathering between game creators and studio leaders. The aim of these get-togethers is to offer strategic guidance on maximizing the economic, cultural, and educational opportunities within the British video game industry.

Sir Chris Bryant stated that the video game industry in the UK is exceptionally top-notch and plays a crucial role in our creative field. As outlined in our Creative Industries Blueprint, our aim is to establish the UK as the premier destination worldwide for investing in creativity and groundbreaking ideas.

It’s quite unexpected that the representatives chosen for the gaming industry are quite mixed and inclusive (rather than simply AAA executives). Although it might take some time before we witness their outcomes – let’s hope the governments will be involved – it’s exhilarating to observe Britain recognizing the significance of video games.
