Why Was Christian Horner Fired from Red Bull?

The dismissal of Christian Horner by Red Bull has caused a significant stir within the realm of Formula One. Known for his strong influence in the sport, Horner led Red Bull Racing during its ascent and reign. Under his guidance, the team claimed eight drivers’ championships and six constructors’ titles. However, one may wonder why Horne was let go despite his many accolades throughout the years?

Here’s everything we know.

What happened to Christian Horner?

On July 9, 2025, I found myself unexpectedly parting ways with Red Bull, ending my remarkable 20-year journey as the team principal of Red Bull Racing in Formula One. The company has kept quiet about the reasons behind this surprising move, but whispers from within the team hint at a series of events that may have led to this decision.

After the announcement of Horner’s departure, ESPN disclosed that there have been tensions within the team for several months according to confidential sources. These tensions increased with the team’s recent difficulties on the racetrack and the ambiguity surrounding Max Verstappen’s continued tenure with the team. Additionally, Horner’s high-profile disagreements with Jos Verstappen, Max’s father, appeared to exacerbate the situation further.

Furthermore, in February 2024, Horner garnered attention when Red Bull initiated an investigation into sexual misconduct accusations against him. Despite the company finding him innocent of these charges, the case remains unofficially resolved. Nevertheless, Horner maintained his role and continued to function as RB’s team principal prior to his dismissal this year.
