Duster Season 2 Renewal Gets Disappointing Update With HBO Max’s Statement

HBO Max has chosen to discontinue the 1970s crime drama “Duster” after wrapping up its first season, opting not to produce a second one. The series was jointly created by J.J. Abrams and LaToya Morgan.

Duster gets canceled by HBO Max before Season 2

This is what the HBO Max statement confirms:

Although HBO Max has decided not to produce a second season of Duster, we are deeply appreciative for the opportunity to collaborate with the incredibly talented co-creators J.J. Abrams and LaToya Morgan, as well as our partners at Bad Robot and Warner Bros. Television. We take great pride in this series starring Josh Holloway and Rachel Hilson, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to them, along with the entire cast and crew, for their exceptional creativity and cooperation.

In May of 2025, Duster made its debut as the sole show produced under J.J. Abrams’ agreement with Warner Bros. Television for HBO Max. Production on this series is believed to have started in 2020, and it was given the green light to proceed in 2023. However, other projects under this deal, such as Justice League Dark, experienced delays in development. It’s also reported that a show based on Stephen King’s The Shining never progressed beyond initial planning stages.

Warner Bros. Television stated, “J.J. Abrams and LaToya Morgan produced a gripping, complex crime drama titled Duster, which transported viewers to the 1970s in a fresh and creative manner. The characters were brilliantly developed by an exceptional cast headed by Josh, Rachel, and a gifted ensemble, supported by a skilled team behind the scenes.

In this production, Josh Holloway and Rachel Hilson took the main stage, while Keith David, Camille Guaty, Sydney Elisabeth, Asivak Koostachin, Greg Grunberg, Benjamin Charles Watson, and Adriana Aluna Martinez played crucial secondary characters.
