In a recent chat, this iconic Superman actor shared some insights into the filming plan for the next season of this much-loved police procedural series.

On July 7th’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, Nathan Fillion chatted with temporary host Anthony Anderson about the forthcoming season of their ABC show. During this chat, Firefly veteran Fillion gave some clues about the filming of The Rookie Season 8, subtly suggesting a potential air date for the new season.
We jetted off to Prague for filming part of Season 8’s opening episode. It seemed like I was working on Casino Royale, commented Fillion. He added humorously, “You stroll along these magnificent streets. I adore the history. These structures date back to the 1800s, but they conceal older buildings.
I’m thrilled to share some exciting news as a fellow gamer! Nathan Fillion himself has spilled the beans that the filming for The Rookie’s next season is already in full swing. That means we can probably expect Season 8 to hit our screens sometime in 2026, likely during ABC’s midseason premieres. Can’t wait to jump back into the action!
Alongside Fillion, numerous newcomers in the cast of The Rookie have been posting updates about the filming of Season 8. On July 2, Melissa O’Neil, who plays Lucy Chen, shared on Instagram that she had just a few days left before returning to set, stating “We’re almost there.” Deric Augustine, portraying Miles Penn, also contributed updates by posting some exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from the sets of The Rookie Season 8 on July 8.
Regarding The Rookie Season 8, although there have been frequent updates, we still don’t know when exactly it will be released as an official airdate hasn’t been announced yet.
