What Happens After Trainwreck: The Real Project X? Did Anyone Die?

In the recent installment of Netflix’s documentary series, “Trainwreck: The Real Project X,” they delved into the notorious incident known as Project X Haren. This event was triggered when a Facebook invite posted by Merthe Weusthuis ignited a massive commotion in the tranquil town of Haren, which had previously been known for its peace and quiet.

The evening concluded chaotically with disturbances, theft, injuries, and apprehensions following an explosive response to a Facebook event for a birthday party invitation that gained traction among nearly 5,000 individuals.

Did anyone die in or after Netflix’s Trainwreck: The Real Project X documentary?

Indeed, there was no fatality during the disturbance in Haren. Earlier accounts suggested that two young women perished in the chaos, but it has been established through the Netflix documentary that this information was incorrect. Nonetheless, the riot resulted in substantial destruction at the meeting site.

At least 36 individuals were hurt during the riot, among them was Mariska Sloot, a council representative of Haren, who unfortunately sustained injuries from a thrown glass bottle. However, it’s been confirmed through the documentary and eyewitness accounts that the intention behind the gathering was never to escalate the situation into any form of violence.

Following the spread of the invite far and wide, a multitude, primarily youth, converged with the intent of celebrating. However, events took an unexpected turn as the gathering swelled in size. When riot control officers attempted to quell the crowd, reactions ensued, exacerbating the situation and resulting in injuries.

As things escalated further, the rioters threw Molotov cocktails and set cars on fire.

Following the event, the authorities launched an investigation, resulting in the apprehension of more than a hundred individuals. In the end, only 17 were indicted for the disturbance that unfolded on the premises.

Merthe Weusthuis, the young woman who unwittingly led to these events, no longer resides in the Netherlands. Instead, she now calls Dubai her home.

Reflecting on the occasion, I believe many attended due to a craving for a lively gathering. To me, it seems almost instinctive for teenagers around that age group to yearn for rebellion and assert their individuality. This is what I found myself musing about in relation to the event portrayed in the documentary, which has since become one of the most notorious incidents in Haren’s chronicles.

Trainwreck: The Real Project X is now streaming on Netflix.
