In his role as a co-CEO at DC Studios, James Gunn is set to supervise two upcoming Batman films within the DCU. One of these is The Batman 2, a sequel to the 2022 film by Matt Reeves that fans have been eagerly anticipating. The other movie, titled The Brave and the Bold, will showcase Batman as part of Gunn’s own version of the DC Universe.
What is the update regarding Batman in The Brave and the Bold?
In conversation with Gamesradar+ regarding Superman, Gunn hinted at his involvement in The Brave and the Bold without disclosing any new cast members.
Currently, we’re developing a screenplay. Our screenwriter is diligently working on it. I’m closely engaged in the process, so we’ll soon find out what transpires next. Unfortunately, I don’t have any additional updates at this time.
Gunn is becoming more involved with The Brave and the Bold since these characters belong to his DC Universe. This upcoming movie will be a heartwarming father-son tale, where Bruce Wayne plays Batman and his son, Damian Wayne, takes on the role of Robin. The film is set to premiere under the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
Director Andy Muschietti of The Flash has been chosen to helm The Brave and the Bold. Gunn did not disclose the screenwriter for this upcoming film, and no casting decisions have been made yet. Contrary to some rumors, Robert Pattinson will not portray Batman in The Brave and the Bold, as his version of Bruce Wayne is reserved solely for Reeves’ films.
In the upcoming sequel to The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves, James Gunn is more of a symbolic leader rather than actively involved in the production. This film falls under DC’s Elseworlds category, which houses projects that don’t align with the main DC Universe. Principal photography for The Batman 2 is expected to commence by the end of 2025. In a recent interview, Gunn mentioned carrying the script for The Batman 2 in his bag and planning to read it soon. The release date for this movie is set for October 1, 2027.
