Anne Hathaway’s role in Mother Mary is a Swift-Gaga hybrid

The latest Vogue article about Anne Hathaway mentions that her character in Mother Mary is likened to a blend between Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift.

During the interview with the media outlet, the 42-year-old actress candidly discussed her journey portraying Mother Mary. She revealed that instead of just acting, she felt it was essential to transform herself into someone whom director David (Lowery) could mold. Moreover, she disclosed that alongside dance and vocal lessons, as well as practicing screams, she also needed to mentally adopt a mindset of a novice.

According to Hathaway, she embraced the fact of starting over as a novice. She acknowledged the humility in showing up daily, aware you’ll make mistakes, and accepting that it’s alright. She explained that this mindset shift required letting go of certain aspects, which wasn’t easy. The Devil Wears Prada actress described this transformation as “welcome,” but admitted that it was challenging, just like many transformative experiences can be.

The movie titled Mother Mary, yet to be given a release date, is set to be distributed by A24. In this production, Anne Hathaway will share the screen with Hunter Schafer, Jessica Brown Findlay, Michaela Coel, and Sian Clifford. Furthermore, Jack Antonoff and Charli XCX are contributing original songs for the film’s soundtrack.

Moreover, Hathaway announced on Instagram in late July 2024 that filming had been completed. She characterized the filmmaking process as “extraordinarily” and “transformative.

Following Mary Mother’s role, Hathaway has four upcoming films scheduled for release in 2026. These are The Devil Wears Prada 2, Verity, The Odyssey, and Flowervale Street. The initial two, The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Verity, are anticipated to be out on May 1st and 15th respectively, while the remaining two, The Odyssey and Flowervale Street, will premiere on July 17th and August 14th respectively.
