In July, Dead By Daylight is a busy month with daily logins offering thousands of Bloodpoints and leaks hinting at significant changes for the upcoming Chaos Shuffle event. The return of the popular Chaos Shuffle Limited Time Mode is thrilling, but what truly stands out is the impending DBD chapter, featuring not one but two licensed survivors from The Walking Dead. You can find a countdown for when the Dead By Daylight x The Walking Dead Public Test Build (PTB) will be released, along with the confirmed TWD survivors, new items, major enhancements, and more details provided by Behaviour Interactive.
Dead By Daylight The Walking Dead PTB release date
The scheduled launch date for the collaboration between Dead By Daylight and The Walking Dead in Public Test Build (PTB) is set for July 8th. As hinted during the unveiling of DBD’s Year 10 roadmap at PAX EAST, there were whispers that The Walking Dead would join DBD, and now it has been confirmed officially.
Together, we endure. Alone, we fall.

According to the Year 10 blueprint, we will acquire two authorized survivor characters. These characters are scheduled for release in July. Since Preview Builds (PTBs) usually occur three weeks prior, it is expected that the full release will be around July 30th.
Following the conclusion of The Walking Dead storyline, audiences can look forward to an independently crafted episode inspired by Asian folklore. Subsequently, another installment based on licensed content will be presented, featuring two survivors and one antagonist. However, whispers about a third Resident Evil series have surfaced, but these seem to have been dismissed by the Behaviour community manager, Eric Pope.
When does Dead by Daylight The Walking Dead PTB come out?
The scheduled launch time for the Public Test Build (PTB) of Dead by Daylight: The Walking Dead is set for 8 AM Pacific Time, 11 AM Eastern Time, and 4 PM British Summer Time on July 8th.
Generally speaking, these specified times are when updates and new chapters tend to be released. However, if Behaviour Interactive happens to stream Dead by Daylight on the same day, there won’t be a release then; as of now, there’s no planned live stream for DBD.

Who are the Dead By Daylight The Walking Dead survivors?
As a diehard fan, I’ve been buzzing with excitement about the upcoming crossover between Dead By Daylight and The Walking Dead PTB. While we don’t have official confirmation yet, there’s a strong possibility that Rick and Michonne will be joining the game. Here’s why: the Year 10 roadmap has a secret clue that spells out “The Ones Who Live,” and these two characters are the stars of The Walking Dead spin-off with the same title. So, fingers crossed!
While Rick and Michonne are the likely duo, they haven’t been confirmed as of writing.
New DBD items
In addition to the introduction of two fresh survivors from The Walking Dead, the Pre-Test Build (PTB) for Dead By Daylight includes a host of new items, enhancements, and balance adjustments. Here’s a rundown of what BeHaviour has detailed in their overview of 9.1.0:
* A new map, “The Haddonfield Sanitarium,” is now available for players to explore.
* New killer perks include “Blood Favor” and “Bamboozle.”
* For survivors, the new perk “Unbreakable” provides an additional layer of protection against being hooked multiple times in a single trial.
* Various gameplay improvements have been made to address issues such as collision detection and animations.
* Balance changes have been implemented across various killers and survivors to ensure fairness and fun gameplay.
Overall, the Dead By Daylight PTB 9.1.0 update brings a wealth of new content and adjustments for players to enjoy.
New survivor item – Fog Vial:
- Added a new equippable item for Survivors: the Fog Vial. Its effects include:
- Using a Fog Vial causes a fog cloud to expand outward from the point where it was used, dissipating after a set time
- Scratch marks do not spawn within a fog cloud
- Audio is muffled for anyone within a fog cloud
- The auras of players within a fog cloud cannot be read by other players
- The Fog Vial has a cooldown which recharges over time once used
- Added item rarities and add-ons.
DEVELOPER’S NOTES: The Fog Vial is designed to cause confusion and disrupt line of sight. When activated, it produces a fog that obscures your surroundings but provides limited visibility within a close range. Survivors can make use of the Fog Vial on a single, recharging basis, meaning they can utilize it numerous times during a Trial without worrying too much about conserving charges. This allows them to act more spontaneously when using their Fog Vials.
Stay tuned for patch notes for more information about Fog Vial rarities and add-ons.
Survivor item update – keys:
- Changed item “charges” to refer to individual uses of item, rather than the overall time it can be used for
- Adjusted the uses for this item to cover the following:
- Channel the Key to consume 1 charge and reveal Survivor auras for a limited time
- When near a closed hatch, consume 1 charge to unlock it
- Consume 1 charge to quickly unlock a chest and gain an item of Rare rarity or higher. Once a chest has been unlocked with a Key it:
- Is revealed to nearby Survivors
- Can be rummaged in by 1 other Survivor to gain an additional item of Rare rarity or higher
- Adjusted the effects of individual item rarities and several add-ons.
Note from Developer: The keys have been observed as the least frequently used Survivor items, often surpassed by other choices. In an effort to expand their usefulness and cater to players’ desire for more exclusive items, we’ve revamped them.
As a fan, I’m thrilled about the updates to the “charge” system! Now, it feels more intuitive to think of it as “uses” instead of “use time.” This change makes tracking easier. Moreover, the aura-reading capabilities of Keys have been significantly enhanced, providing a better gaming experience. To top it off, they’ve added some team-wide utility! Now, not only does the equipped player benefit from quality items from chests, but a single teammate can also share in this opportunity. This collaboration feature really takes the game to the next level!
Stay tuned for the patch notes for details on Key and Map item rarities and add-ons.
Survivor item update – Maps:
- Changed item “charges” to refer to individual uses of item, rather than the overall time it can be used for
- Adjusted the uses for this item to cover the following:
- Channel the Map to consume 1 charge and reveal nearby pallet and vault auras to yourself for a limited time
- While auras are revealed, press the Use Item button again to create a beam of light (only visible to Survivors), revealing the auras of generators within the beam’s range to all Survivors
- Adjusted the effects of individual item rarities and several add-ons.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve always appreciated the subtleties in game design, and Maps were one such element that intrigued me. Often overlooked by both newcomers and veterans, they didn’t seem to fit neatly into either beginner or advanced player sets. However, with this update, Maps maintain their essence of providing players a sense of their environment, while making their effects more reliable and beneficial to teammates. No longer do we need to meticulously track objects before they become visible on our maps.
DBD improvements and new features
Preset improvements:
- Increased total number of Character Customization presets to 7
- Increased total number of Loadout presets to 7
- Added the ability to change preset names
DEVELOPER’S NOTE: To help you easily save the items you love, whether they are fashion essentials or useful perks for various situations, we have streamlined the process. Rest assured that your current settings will be seamlessly transferred to this new and improved system.
Keyboard and Mouse on consoles:
- Added mouse and keyboard support on the following console platforms:
- PlayStation 4
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox One
- Xbox Series X|S
Please note: This feature is not available on the PTB, as it is only playable on Steam.
NOTE DEVELOPER: We’ve expanded the options for controlling games on various console systems by adding both mouse and keyboard support. This gives players greater freedom in their playstyle choices.
Custom match improvements:
- Added hotkey inputs to Custom Game spectating to switch to the Killer’s perspective.
- Added spectators hotkeys representation next to players portraits, to improve usability
- Added the option to toggle spectator hotkeys visibility and adjust them in the Input Binding menu.
- Added a visual indicator to show spectators who they are viewing.
- Shows dead Survivor icons if joining as a spectator after getting sacrificed.
NOTE ON DEVELOPMENT: Building on the previous update’s modifications to Custom Games, we’ve made additional enhancements to facilitate smoother view-switching and tournament broadcasting. These changes aim to provide viewers with a richer understanding of the content they are watching.
DBD update for Killers and Perks
Killer updates:
The Executioner:
- Increased Punishment of the Damned’s range
- Increased the duration of Rites of Judgment’s trail drawing and trail lifetime
- Decreased Rites of Judgement’s movement speed
- Added Haste and Endurance effects to Survivors saved from a cage
- Added input buffering to:
- Transition from Punishment of the Damned to Rites of Judgment
- Begin caging or killing a Survivor when the prompt is available
- Reworked his add-ons.
Note for Developers: We’ve taken note of your feedback that The Executioner’s add-ons could benefit from more diversity. It shouldn’t feel like range is the only effective choice. To address this, we’re enhancing the basekit for range increases, and also revising his add-ons to provide more engaging options. For instance, we’ve adjusted the spread of Punishment of the Damned, and designed effects that trigger on missed attacks.
Apart from the upcoming changes (check the patch notes for more details on add-ons!), we’ve implemented several improvements to enhance user experience, and somewhat limited his area of influence.
The Clown:
- Increased movement speed while reloading bottle
- Decreased bottle reload time
- Adjusted the effects of yellow bottles:
- Increased Haste effect
- Increased the distance and speed that smoke spreads to
- Increased activation speed
- Adjusted the effects of purple bottles:
- Decreased the Hindered effect
- Decreased how long the Hindered effect lingers after leaving smoke
- Added input buffering to:
- Charging a bottle throw
- Reloading bottles
- Adjusted several add-ons.
DEVELOPER’S NOTE: In the game, The Clown’s yellow bottles are often overlooked in comparison to his purple ones, regardless of skill level. To encourage players to utilize the yellow bottles more effectively, we’ve made a few adjustments. Now, they activate faster, provide a greater speed boost over a wider area, and offer some base speed increases as well. To keep things balanced, we’ve slightly reduced the effectiveness of the purple bottles, making it a bit more challenging to fully benefit from them, but requiring better aim or control when throwing.
The Knight:
- Increased maximum patrol path length
- Increased path drawing speed, acceleration, and strafe speed
- The Carnifex’s Standard spawns slower
- The Assassin and Jailor’s Standards spawn quicker
- Added input buffering to:
- Drawing a patrol path
- Adjusted Call to Arms add-on.
DEVELOPER NOTES: Enhancing patrol paths in The Knight’s gameplay is crucial, so we’ve made them more responsive and extended their reach slightly. This makes the Call to Arms ability partially self-contained. Additionally, we’ve fine-tuned the standard spawn times for each Guard. Specifically, the Standards for the two guards that focus on chases will appear sooner to offer Survivors a bit more counterplay during situations where they are typically at their strongest, such as double team scenarios.
This version maintains the original’s meaning and provides a slightly different phrasing for better readability.
The Pig:
- Increased crouched movement speed
- Increased speed of crouching and un-crouching
- Increased the speed at which the Terror Radius fades when crouching
- Increased Ambush movement speed
- Added input buffering to:
- Crouching
- Charging an Ambush attack
- Adjusted several add-ons.
Note for Developers: Absolutely, we’ve enhanced Pig’s abilities. Her ability to catch Survivors off guard is a significant aspect of her charm, and this isn’t just limited to her traps. By boosting her speed and reducing the time it takes for her Terror Radius to disappear when sneaking, she’ll have more opportunities to surprise unsuspecting Survivors.
Survivor perks:
- Updated Any Means Necessary
- Updated Appraisal
- Updated Better Together
- Updated Built to Last
- Updated Déjà Vu
- Updated Detective’s Hunch
- Updated Potential Energy
- Updated Still Sight
- Reworked Streetwise
Note for Developers: We’ve boosted the power of some perks that weren’t popular choices, to make them more attractive. Furthermore, we’ve fine-tuned the perks related to items to ensure they work seamlessly with the latest Survivor item adjustments in this update.
Stay tuned for the patch notes for specific details on these value changes.
Killer perks:
- Updated Dragon’s Grip
- Updated Franklin’s Demise
- Updated Hubris
- Updated Insidious
- Reworked Overwhelming Presence
- Updated Scourge Hook: Hangman’s Trick
DEVELOPER’S UPDATE: Just like before, we’ve given a boost to underused abilities and fine-tuned others that interact with items to match our latest updates.
