Sinners Used Blade MCU Movie Costumes for Its Extras

Sev Ohanian, the producer of the popular film “Sinners,” recently revealed an entertaining Marvel reference related to the costumes worn by the background performers in the highly praised movie starring Michael B. Jordan. This tidbit was disclosed approximately three months after the film’s theatrical release.

Sinners producer reveals Sinners connection with Blade

Apart from Ryan Coogler, who directed Black Panther, and stars Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, and Wunmi Mosaka, it appears that Sinners may have a less obvious connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In a recent interview, Ohanian disclosed that the extras’ costumes for Sinners were originally designed by Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter for Marvel Studios’ Blade movie. He mentioned that after the production of Blade was cancelled, Marvel Studios allowed them to purchase these costumes for Sinners.

According to Ohanian, Ruth Carter had been working on a Blade movie that ultimately didn’t get filmed. At one stage, this movie was intended to explore events happening in a similar timeframe to its past.

He added, “She actually owned a warehouse filled with clothing suitable for the era. Then, they found themselves in a situation where they needed to film the movie almost immediately. Fortunately, Marvel showed great generosity and kindness by allowing us to buy it at an affordable price.

The film is a work by Coogler, who is responsible for both writing, directing, and production. Alongside Michael B. Jordan, the ensemble cast features Hailee Steinfeld as Mary, Jack O’Connell as Remmick, Miles Caton as Sammie Moore, Buddy Guy as Old Sammie, Jayme Lawson as Pearline, Wunmi Mosaku as Annie, Delroy Lindo as Delta Slim, Omar Benson Miller as Cornbread, Li Jun Li as Grace Chow, and others. Since its premiere, the movie has earned a Certified Fresh rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 375 reviews.
