What happens when you stop chasing trophies in Mario Kart World and simply explore?
As a dedicated gamer, I set out on a quest to explore every nook and cranny of Mario Kart World. In a whopping ten-hour video, I delved into the game’s hidden corners that often go unnoticed, revealing its vast, immersive open world.
Indeed, the title is accurate. There are more than 200 interconnecting routes that link these race tracks, many of which go unnoticed by the average player.
More Than Just A Home Stretch
Regardless if it’s a high-speed Grand Prix or an intense knockout match, the competition goes beyond mere laps on circuit tracks. An often underestimated aspect is the extensive road network that links the different tracks together.
Instead, unlike some games that use a loading screen, this one allows you to experience driving from one racing track directly to another.
It’s interesting to note that the developers have carefully planned ways to help players stay on the correct course. These subtleties, such as strategically positioned obstacles, curved turns, and faintly visible navigation markers, subtly lead you through the intended route, making it seem like there were no alternative paths at all.
34 Cents Per Route?
Spending more than ten hours on camera, Getlucky vividly demonstrates the amount of time and perseverance required to thoroughly examine each and every link.
According to his tally, there are 202 distinct paths connecting different tracks, making a total of 232 driveable sections when you include the regular tracks.
Fun fact: At a price point of $80 for the game, that works out to about 34 cents per route.
Want To Try It Yourself?
If you’re eager to embark on your personal karting adventure across various tracks, consider visiting the “VS Race” and turning on “Free Track Selection” within the settings. Another option is to dive into an online play “Private Room,” where you can press the “+” button to reveal the comprehensive Full Course Map.
Heads Up: You won’t find the advanced features when playing online against random opponents. Instead, it’s all about three-lap races on predefined tracks, as the game automatically shifts between them.
Brilliant Gag Or Wasted Potential?
The response to Getlucky’s video has been overwhelmingly positive.
Opinions on the secret aspect of the game vary, with some players expressing excitement, stating that it justifies the game’s higher cost for them.
“This might sound silly, but now I get why the game costs 80 bucks. That cinematic, almost tear-jerking moment on Rainbow Boulevard really sold it for me.”
Others are a bit more nuanced:
“Sure, the quality varies a lot between routes, but some of them are so cool they feel like proper tracks. The path to Daisy’s Castle, for example, is fantastic. Honestly, it’s a shame it’s not a standalone course.”
Some people find these sections rather bland or lacking visually, even when set alongside Mario Kart 8. They argue that while the open world concept is intriguing, it doesn’t deliver much in terms of engaging gameplay.
In your opinion, does the premium cost of Mario Kart World justify its hidden feature, or is Nintendo intentionally leading us on an expensive detour?
